01.09.2009 Supply chain gets together to test mobile payment A partnership between Telmex’s Claro, VisaNet, Nokia, Visa, Bradesco and Banco do Brasil will test the feasibility of a mobile payment system in Brazil, using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. It allows credit and debit cards, transport and meal vouchers to be integrated to the mobile phone. To pay, consumers need only to move the phone close to a reader. In Brazil, the deal among banks, phone company, mobile phone manufacturer and payment system company will last for four months, from August to November. Seventy people will take part on the pilot test, using Nokia’s 6212 NFC-embedded device. The goal is to test consumer acceptance to this new payment tool and to evaluate IT integration and business model issues. If successful, the solution may become commercially available next year.
