29.09.2009 Starbucks trialing iPhone apps for payment Starbucks is launching two free applications for Apple's App Store, the coffee shop's first foray into iPhone and iPod touch software. One application will allow customers to use their phone as a refillable Starbucks card and the other offers store locations, menus, and information. The first application lets users purchase coffee using a scannable bar code that appears on their device's screen. They can also transfer money and check balances directly from the application. The app is being tested in San Francisco and Seattle, regions that have high rates of Starbucks cards and Apple products. The second app, called myStarbucks, lets users search for stores by location, hours, and amenities and browse the menu and access nutritional information for pre-prepared and customized drinks. Depending on the success of the first app in trial cities, the company will decide whether or not to expand the service to other markets. The Wall Street Journal « back
