Putting catalogs online is the most-planned rich media project
As web marketers venture further into rich media, more will turn to the online reinvention of a traditional offline marketing vehicle than any other online merchandising project in 2009. According to a new survey from Adobe Scene7, 29% of North American online companies surveyed by the rich media technology vendor plan to put catalogs and circulars online this year, survey results showed, making that the most common type of project planned for improving the online customer experience. Next came 360-degree product image spin, and quick looks and rollover views, each cited by 27% of those surveyed; videos, planned by 26%; product comparisons, planned by 24%; and search landing pages and audio or animation, cited in each case by 24%. Respondents’ views on the effectiveness of rich media features reflected the adoption curve of longer-entrenched tools. Among companies that had either already adopted the feature or planned to this year, alternative views was cited by 99% as either effective or very effective. Following were color swatching and side-by-side comparisons, each mentioned by 97%; zoom and lifestyle imagery, each mentioned by 95%; search landing pages, cited by 94%; and visual filtering/advanced search, interactive design tools, and videos and quick looks/rollover views, cited in each case by 93%.
