One-third of Americans now access the mobile web
There’s been a significant jump in the number of Americans using mobile devices to access the Internet. 32% of Americans have used a conventional mobile phone or smartphone to access the Internet to check e-mail, send instant messages or seek information, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project. This is up one-third from 24% when the survey was last conducted, 16 months ago. On a typical day, 19% of Americans use the Internet on a mobile phone, up a substantial 73% from 11% 16 months ago. The Pew Internet Project's survey interviewed 2,253 Americans. Nearly half, 46%, of mobile Internet users say mobile access is very important for getting online information, including information on retailers and products, on the go.
