E-retail gets into IRS focus
E-retailers are becoming a strong focus of Brazilian fiscal authorities, who want to tight the belt on tax evasion companies. In São Paulo, for instance, state government is preparing changes in law to make easier to check online operations. National tax authority has also created a study group on this issue. Online sales are expected to reach R$ 10 billion this year, 22% mor ethan in 2008. The main trouble is today tax authorities struggle to find the owners of small e-retail sites, as internet service providers are not obliged to reveal this kind of data.
