Consumers rewarded with mobile phone airtime
With 159.6 million mobile phone subscribers in the country, some companies started considering airtime as a kind of “low-income mileage reward”. As in airline loyalty programs the mileage attract higher-income consumers, mobile phone credits may attract low-income users. Two companies, Minutrade and Minucom, are betting on the potential size of this market. Minutrade has partnered with Ale fuel company earlier this year to offer Claro’s phone operator credits to Ale’s loyalty card holders. Minucom has set a partnership with Panamericano bank, on its turn, so the credit card’s loyalty program points can be traded by mobile phone minutes. The acceptance has been very good, according to the companies, who consider this a good solution for low-income users.
